The modern businessperson – the ‘minipreneur
It’s becoming an eBay world as the heirs to the rat race cubicle world are emerging. Goodbye office park commuting, hello minipreneurship.
Gotta love the people at Trendwatching.com – here’s their definiton: minipreneurs: a vast army of consumers turning entrepreneurs; including small and micro businesses, freelancers, side-businesses, weekend entrepreneurs, web-driven entrepreneurs, part-timers, free agents, cottage businesses, seniorpreneurs, co-creators, mompreneurs, pro-ams, solopreneurs, eBay traders, advertising-sponsored bloggers and so on. For instance, there are 724,000 ‘professional’ eBay businesses out there, and another 1.5 million who use it to make money on the side.
What this means for our neighborhoods and communities is profoundly heartening, as for this group, place matters more than ever. Minipreneurs live where, when, how they want, thus they’ll choose the places with the highest quality of life. I’m sure you’ve noticed that the smaller the business (main streets vs office parks), the more inviting the built environment for people? Well then, this means the best is yet to come. Some indications of what may be coming, tomorrow.
